"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."
Colossians 3:12-14
It was not what I envisioned it to be. It was real life after all.
But
I thank God for that trip -- for every tiring, peaceful, fun,
frustrating, comforting, happy, stressful, fulfilling minute of it.
When
we were planning for this 5-day Holy Week trip, all I could think about
was how fun and exciting it would be. I could ride a ferry again and go
visit a beach and explore new places. Cool. But God wanted me to get
more than that.
It
was funny how each of our temperaments would clash -- Dan with his
impatience and (over)perkiness, Ronnie with his blatant irritation and I
with my tendency to suddenly be cold and go into silent mode -- and
we'd find ourselves disagreeing even in the most insignificant things.
Well, that's what you get when you spend 24 hours a day for 5 days
together under not-so-ordinary circumstances.
Even
when we're talking about how to share the Gospel to Albert's family, we
can't help but butt heads. At one point, I had to literally pause and
pray for God's peace and patience to come and fill me. We must have felt
burdened by the 'responsibility' of evangelism that we're forgetting
what's most important and we're focusing more on the 'work'.
But after we were able to share the Gospel to his family, I was lost for words. To be honest, I would like to ask them a lot
of questions like how were they feeling but I somehow felt like that's not the appropriate time.
Anyway, I think we're all the better for it. Now that we've known each other
better, maybe next time we can easily adapt to each other's temper and
avoid clashing.
And definitely avoid traveling during the holiday season next time.
